Ways to Improve Your Storage Options in Your Dining Room

The dining room doesn’t tend to be the place that comes to mind when you think of “storage”, but you need storage in there as much as you would the kitchen, living room, or under the stairs.

Ways to improve storage in the dining room aren’t so common, so we’re here to give you a few ideas. Read on to see our tips for improving storage in the dining room.

Use Your Wall Space

One of the biggest wastes in western interior design trends is the lack of use of vertical space. There is a lot you can do there to create more storage space. Your family portrait is beautiful, but not the most practical option.

Instead, look into installing shelves or cabinets. Shelves will display what you want, which makes them better for offices, because you can have all your books on display, but if you’re looking for somewhere to put all the unused tea towels, you might need cabinets.

Use Your Floor Space

Think about the table you are buying as your dining set. The most practical options have an element of storage to them, whether that is a set of cabinets in the bottom, or the tabletop is deep enough to store things.

Some tables have drawers that pull out, offering you all the cutlery up front if you want, or extra space to eat. Others have a built in wine rack, or shelves. There are even folding dining tables with storage underneath so you can free up space while storing.

Use Floor to Ceiling Storage

You can always invest in a floor to ceiling cabinet to get all your storage needs met. If you go looking for cheap furniture and see a cabinet bargain, take it.

The top can have glass doors to display all your crockery and China, while the bottom can keep all the pots and pans and anything else unsightly out of the way while hiding in plain sight.

One item can offer a lot of storage space while becoming a feature in your dining room.

Use a Partition

A partition could serve a few purposes if you get the right one. You will have something physically separating the space between your dining area and your kitchen or living room, but if you get some storage built into it you will also have a set of shelves or cabinets to fill.

Display items or keep them out of sight when the clutter gets to be too much.

Use the Little Things

A more cost-effective option but a lot more low-key option is to use things like a bar trolley for storage. Bar trolleys are already gaining a lot of popularity for a variety of uses from storing drinks to crafting equipment.

In the dining room, you have the drinks option, but also the option to add a few essentials to the trolley to pull out when you need them, like potted herbs, the condiments, salad spoons, etc.
