Dr. Gene Lingerfelt Teaches on Commitment
In this hour, more than ever before, commitment and faithfulness are needed in the Kingdom of God.
Commitment is defined as the state or quality of being dedicated to a cause or activity. At Faith Christian Center, Pastor Gene Lingerfelt encourages us all to stay committed to Christ. This commitment requires a daily commitment to God and His Word.
“I appeal to you, therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual act of worship.” – Romans 12:1
One important characteristic of commitment to Christ is pursuing holiness in our every day lives. This requires a daily commitment as we seek to live by the Spirit, not by the flesh. (See Galatians 5) We are to crucify the flesh and we are to live lives of discipleship whereby we follow Christ, living in obedience to God and His Word. We should always be making progress in living life. As Paul tells us, we are to aim for perfection. (2 Corinthians 13:11)
“…A faithful man who can find?” – Proverbs 20:6
“As Christians committed to living the Christian life, your chief aim should always be to pursue a life that pleases God, which is a life of obedience to Him and His commandments,” says Pastor Gene Lingerfelt. “With a commitment to obedience, we make it our chief aim to live a life that is holy and pleasing to God.”
Holiness is described as being continually in God’s presence and being fully devoted to Him in every area of our lives. When we live this way we live mindful and conscious of the fact that we are new creations in Christ and that the Spirit of God dwells in us. The old has gone and the new has come. The old man or old woman is dead and we are now new creations in Christ Jesus! And we are to actually live like it in our everyday lives!
Growing closer to Christ requires separation from the world. James reminds us that friendship (or compromise) with the world is, in fact, hatred toward God. (James 4:4) This is why the Bible tell us to come out from the world and to live lives that are consecrated unto God. (2 Corinthians 6:17) Living by the Spirit, not by the flesh, is a daily commitment. And in times of temptation, you must rely on God’s strength. Hebrews reminds us that Christ was tempted like we are, yet He did not sin. (Hebrews 4:15) Because of that fact, Jesus by His Spirit and power can help us overcome any temptation or sin if we will live a consecrated life and ask for God’s power and help.
Separating from the world is never an easy task, but all things are possible with the help of God and we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. (Philippians 4:13) God wants us to overcome! He does not want us to live lives of defeat and struggle!
As we draw closer to beginning a new year, now is the time to become even more committed to living the life God has called you to live. In these days, God is looking for faithful men and women.
The key is to be faithful and committed to God and His Word!
Pastor Gene Lingerfelt challenges his congregation at Faith Christian Center to remember the Apostle Paul’s encouragement to offer the entirety of your life to God. When you do that, you truly make Jesus the Lord–the Master–of your life and in doing that you fully commit yourself to God, His Word, and to the pursuit of holiness.
Especially during the holidays, Pastor Gene Lingerfelt reminds us that now is the best time to live a life of commitment to Christ and to pursue holiness in all things.
