Bill Lockyer enjoyed a long and distinguished career in public service in California. After many years in the California state legislature, Mr. Lockyer served as California’s attorney general, and later, as the State Treasurer. He knows from firsthand experience how hard it is to govern and believes that the Biden Administration faces a lot of tall tasks in the months and years ahead.
“The Biden White House is facing a lot of challenges, and even as officials try to get on their feet administrating, they must tackle a lot of major issues,” Bill Lockyer notes. “I believe they have the talent and experience to accomplish tremendous things, but it’s going to be difficult.”
The COVID-19 pandemic is on everyone’s mind. There’s hope that vaccines will bring the pandemic under control in the months ahead. Over 65 million shots have so far been administered, resulting in more than 13 percent of the US population having been fully vaccinated. Still, COVID-19 related challenges persist.
“Many within the Biden Administration are probably hopeful that the pandemic will soon be a thing of the past, but I’m sure they aren’t looking past it either. Vaccinating millions of people is a challenge, especially when some vaccines require two shots. While America is stepping up to the task, work remains to be done,” Bill Lockyer argues.
The most important metric of the COVID-19 impact is the lives lost and irrevocably changed for the worst, Bill Lockyer notes. That said, the health crisis may cause other problems that could prove pressing and may cause more widespread hardship.
“I’ll never forget those we lost,” Bill Lockyer points out, “and now, the fears of an economic turn down and other issues are still very pressing. It’s not about companies losing profits, it’s about people losing their homes and struggling to pay for the basic necessities of life. If the economy does experience a downturn, many more will suffer. I’m glad the Biden Administration is being proactive, but propping up the economy is hard.”
Bill Lockyer believes that stimulus checks, rent relief, assistance with student loans, and other measures are needed to protect Main Street America from further economic hardship. Yet beyond the havoc caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Biden Administration faces long-term problems that must be confronted, including climate change.
Bill Lockyer Talks Climate Change
In recent years, California has suffered massive wildfires that have wiped out millions of acres of forest and cost many lives. Many scientists believe that the fires are linked to climate change and changing weather patterns. Bill Lockyer applauds the Biden Administration for rejoining the Paris Accords, but notes that much more must be done in the long run to combat global warming.
“The Biden Administration and the administrations to come must work to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and other factors that may be causing climate change,” Bill Lockyer notes. “There’s no easy answer, but if we don’t confront the issue now, it could cost more lives and prosperity in the future.”
