Beth Lougee Named Interim Superintendent for Ketchikan Gateway Borough School

An outstanding career has led Beth Lougee from Silver City, New Mexico to her new role in Alaska.

Beth Lougee has spent more than 23 years building her successful career in education. She is known to be organized and knowledgeable in data-driven decision making; excellent qualities for her new position as Interim Superintendent at Ketchikan Gateway Borough School. Beth Lougee remains dedicated to students, parents, and faculty while striving to improve educational outcomes for all students. 

She began as a substitute teacher and coach, working while earning a double bachelor’s degree in elementary education and special education K-12. In 1996, Beth Lougee graduated from Black Hills State University and became a special education teacher and coach for six years. An avid lifelong learner, Beth then earned master’s degrees in school counseling and administration K-12 from Chadron State College.  

For five years, Beth Lougee served as a school counselor and handled confidential information while advocating for student’s needs. In 2006, she became a K-12 Principal and served schools in Wyoming and Silver City, New Mexico for a decade. During this time, Beth furthered her education and earned an Education Specialist Degree – Superintendent, in 2011. 

In 2017, Beth Lougee and her husband moved to Ketchikan where she took over the role as Curriculum Director for Ketchikan Gateway Borough School District. After only one year in the district, she became Superintendent of Ketchikan Gateway Borough School District as of January 2019. She is currently a doctorate student at North Central University.  

Through her many leadership roles, Beth Lougee has gained a firm understanding of curriculum development, evaluation systems, and district policies. She has extensive knowledge of student grants and scholarship opportunities while always keeping the students’ future in mind. In addition, Beth is skilled in training personnel and focusing on their professional development. 

Beth Lougee is happily married to her husband David Lougee, who also has a long career in education. They have two sons and five beautiful grandchildren, all in Wyoming. In her spare time, you can find Beth outdoors hiking, fishing, camping, or reading educational journals.
